Work for villagers, earn Budi and become part of the town.
Kerja kampung and Budi
Villagers who are always about have work, and so do the island's teachers once they have taught you. Talk to them and ask about work: bring them something you gathered, cooked or made (never shop stock), carry a parcel to someone in another town, go and look at a place and come back, or (since v0.54) go hunting.
Pemburu. Pak Belang the hunter in Hulu Besut, Tok Ali, Encik Rahman, Pak Jusoh at Kuala Terengganu's gate and Tok Penghulu set hunts: thin out the macaques, the monitor lizards or the crabs, or the men of a raiders' camp. Only the right creature in the right place counts, and a named man never does. Once the story has cleared Pangkalan Terbiar or Kem Bakau, their men come back only while somebody wants them thinned out. Hulu Besut, Kampung Setiu and Kuala Terengganu each have a fire or a grill, fishing spots and creatures of their own; Mak Som at Pasar Payang buys seafood for a quarter more than Kak Yah, and a prawn trap goes on any prawn spot.
Three jobs at a time, one from each person, and someone you have worked for rests a few minutes. Offers come from your save, so a reload never changes one. Jobs pay ringgit and XP, and Budi, your standing in that town: at 10 they know you (a small gift, and they will look for something else if you ask), at 30 they trust you (another gift, their work pays a tenth more, and their shops take 5% off); at 60 you are one of them, Anak kampung (a third gift, work pays a quarter more, 10% off).
