Crafting

Live · v0.59

Make wooden equipment at Pak Mat’s boatyard on Perhentian, or learn mining and smithing with Pak Leh in Kuala Besut. The Craft tab helps you find the right station.

The boatyard

Pak Mat's boatyard sits a few steps from the campfire. Click it, or press 4, to open the Craft tab; a button walks you over if you are away. There is no boatyard in Kuala Besut, so sail back to make things.

Arrows go straight into your quiver. The boat waits in your pack until you launch it.

The boat

Six timber and three rope, Woodwork 3. Build it at the boatyard, then click the boatyard again to launch it: the end of Castaway's Training. From then on it is tied up by the boatyard and at the end of the Kuala Besut jetty.

First Iron: learn with Pak Leh

Talk to Pak Leh by the bridge in Kuala Besut and choose Teach me to mine. He lends you an old pickaxe and asks for a bundle of iron fittings for a boat repair. Your quest tracker shows one objective at a time; the lesson button walks you to the next place.

  1. Use the old pickaxe at the weathered iron seam. Mining breaks useful ore out of rock. Gather two iron ore; the teaching trip stops when you have enough.
  2. Cut two timber with a hatchet, then return to Pak Leh. His kiln turns the timber into charcoal.
  3. Use his smelting hearth to heat two ore with one charcoal and make an iron bar.
  4. At his anvil, forge the bar into an iron fittings bundle.
  5. Give Pak Leh the fittings for RM4. Keep the pickaxe and explore the workshop when you are ready.

Reloading keeps your materials and lesson progress. If you lose the pickaxe, reclaim it from Pak Leh. Completed first orders stay complete; use the quest’s tracking button to return to your story objective.

The forge

Pak Leh’s workshop has a charcoal kiln, smelting hearth and anvil. After First Iron, its Workshop tab lists the recipes and their materials. Each finished result is kept if you stop a batch.

His equipment shop remains available too: bring a meranti handle from the boatyard and RM 90, and he forges a steel hatchet onto it. Trade and money has his prices.

Lombong Timah: tin

Since v0.57. South of Pak Long Dollah's kiln on Jalan Pesisir, through an arch marked LOMBONG TIMAH, the old tin workings are open again: Ah Seng's kongsi yard with its furnace (relau), and down in the pit a floor of washed sand, the seams in its granite walls, a sluice (palong) and the pool where Mak Bidah pans.

Rich tin face2 in the pit15your own pickaxe162 × Tin ore Bijih timah44

A pickaxe works faster the better it is: an iron one at 90% of the time, a steel one at 80%.

First Tin. Talk to Mak Bidah by the pool and choose Teach me to pan. She lends you her old dulang (and another if you lose it). Pan two tin ore at the pool's edge, buy a sack of charcoal from Pak Long Dollah (RM 2), and smelt your first bar at Ah Seng's relau: 2 × tin ore + 1 × charcoal, Smithing 1, 10 ticks, 14 XP. The Lombong page of the camp and workshop book walks you to each place, from anywhere on the mainland.

Selling. Tin ore cannot be sold; smelt it. Tauke Lim the goldsmith in Kuala Terengganu buys tin bars for RM 12 and gold flakes for RM 30; Kak Yah gives RM 6 and RM 15. Prices start low on purpose: the best tin route earns well under fishing tuna.

The old people of the coast say the earth of a mine has a keeper, and that it does not care for a greedy pick. Ah Seng keeps a few of the miners' old customs, and says a custom costs little.

The jembalang tanah

Since v0.59. The old people say the earth of Lombong Timah has a keeper, the jembalang tanah. Nobody has seen it, and it is not something you fight: it is the pit itself, and it does not care for a greedy pick.

Greed. Every time you break ore out of the pit's walls it counts: one for a tin seam, two for the rich face. Panning at the pool counts for nothing, because the dulang only takes what the sluice has already washed down. While you are not digging in the pit the count falls by one every 25 ticks. It is never saved: a new visit starts from nothing.

CountWhat happens
6The earth grumbles: a light tremor, pebbles run down the wall, a low rumble.
9A stronger tremor, and a stone from the wall knocks you for 1 damage.
12The walls shake. Your work stops, you take 1 to 3 damage, and the seams are unsettled for 40 ticks: you cannot dig them until the earth settles. Afterwards the count is half what it was.

The earth never takes you below 1 hit point. With reduced motion on, the view does not shake. Pak Leh's teaching quarry and the pool are never troubled.

The custom. At the top of the pit lies an old flat stone. Leave a lump of tin ore on it, as the miners do: you give back a little of what you take. The count goes back to nothing, unsettled walls go still, and for the next 1000 ticks (ten minutes of play) it builds at half the rate. Ah Seng and Mak Bidah tell the tale of it once you have felt the earth grumble.
